In preparation for the upcoming March 5 primary election, the Walker County Commission recently approved changes to three polling locations within the county. Jerry Davis, Chief Clerk of the Walker County Probate Office, says that these relocations aim to help ensure a seamless and accessible voting experience for residents and poll workers alike.

Walker County residents who previously voted at Copeland Ferry Church of God, Thach School, and Nauvoo Town Hall will now vote at the following locations.

Former Location: Copeland Ferry Church of God (Precinct 19)

New Location: Pumpkin Center Baptist Church

20 Pumpkin Center Loop, Quinton, AL 35130

Former Location: Thach School (Precinct 31)

New Location: Lamon Chapel United Methodist Church

944 Lamon Chapel Loop, Jasper, AL 35503

Former Location: Nauvoo Town Hall (Precinct 34)

New Location: Nauvoo Community Center

239 3rd Avenue, Nauvoo, AL 35578

“Thach School caught fire, and the building typically used for voting sustained great damage. Due to the fire being under investigation, we do not currently have access to make the repairs promptly before the election,” says Davis. “We as election officials have to ensure the delivery of voting machines to all 45 voting precincts and ensure that each facility has heat, air, running water, and restrooms for poll workers by election day, and access to the facilities is necessary for that. It had become difficult to access our original location in precinct 19, so poll workers in that area helped us identify Pumpkin Center Baptist as a new location.”

“The town of Nauvoo recently got access to a new community center building. It is much larger and more suitable for a polling location, and voting won’t interrupt the work of the town during the day.”

Sample ballots for the March 5 Primary are available at the Probate Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For those who meet the qualifications to vote but are not yet registered to do so, voter registration is currently underway at the Walker County Board of Registrar’s Office, located on the first floor of the Walker County Courthouse. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, providing residents with ample opportunities to register and participate in the upcoming primary election. February 20, 2024, is the last day to register to vote in the March 5 Primary. WL
