LeaderSports Featured Athlete: Sophie Edgil, Oakman

Oakman High School Junior Sophie Edgil is a multi-sport athlete. She plays setter in volleyball for coach Paulette Berger, guard in basketball for coach Baileigh Fite, participates in cross country for coach Jenny Martin and plays golf for coach Ben Panter.

Sophie puts her all into sports and academics; she has a 4.2 GPA and her favorite subject is Math. She is also involved in the Student Government Association (SGA), Beta Club, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America(FCCLA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Science Club. In addition, she serves as Class President and SGA Secretary.

“What I like about volleyball is that it’s so quick. You don’t have time to think about your mistakes,” Sophie explained.

After graduating in May 2025, she plans to attend the University of North Alabama for her bachelor’s degree and then move on to the University of North Carolina for Law School.

Sophie is the daughter of Natalie and Marcus Carson, and Chad and Jennifer Edgil.
