Ridgeview Health Services in Jasper brought the Christmas story to life last night with their twelfth Live Nativity.

Narrated by Chaplain David Wallace, the event portrayed the biblical account of Jesus’ birth as told in the book of Luke.

The Live Nativity has become a cherished community tradition, drawing attendees from Ridgeview, Ridgewood Health Services, and the surrounding area.

The storytelling featured a collaborative cast, including Ridgeview residents, staff members, family, and friends. Live animals—a camel, two alpacas, and a miniature horse from Barking Cow Farms in Brilliant, Alabama—enhanced the scene’s authenticity. Guests could interact with the animals before and after the three separate presentations.

Ridgeview and Ridgewood Chaplain David Wallace shared his thoughts on the event’s significance, saying, “There are a lot of stories told at Christmas, but there is only one Christmas story, and that is the one we share here tonight. We want to offer it visually to the community to say, ‘This is what it’s all about.’ It is a blessing to work for people who allow us to do this.”

Wallace also reflected on the lasting impact of the tradition, noting, “The very first year I participated in a live nativity was in 2004 in Birmingham, and there was a young lady who participated who is here tonight with her two daughters, who played angels in tonight’s storytelling. Some people have literally grown up doing it.”

The event holds a special place in the hearts of Ridgeview’s residents, staff, and administration alike.

“Our residents love the live nativity! They look forward to it for months at a time, and we love being able to provide that for them to look forward to and enjoy. I sent David (Wallace) a text earlier saying, ‘It’s my favorite night of the year!’ and it is!” said Joette Kelley Brown, President of Ridgeview and Ridgewood Health Services.

In addition to the residents and staff, the Live Nativity welcomed families, friends, and members of the public, many of whom return annually to experience the magic of the season. WL
