Lanie West, a senior at Curry High School, brings determination and passion to the softball diamond and the classroom alike.
Lanie has grown into a formidable catcher for the Yellowjackets, amassing a number of accolades under the guidance of coach Dave Lawson.
In addition to being a member of Curry’s several county championship teams and the 2020 state championship team, Lanie was named Honorable Mention to the Daily Mountain Eagle “Eagle Elite” in 2022. Her hard work has also led her team to three state tournament appearances and secured her spot as a three-time regional qualifier.
Reflecting on her journey with Curry’s softball team, Lanie shares, “I’ve always wanted to represent Curry alongside my best friends.”
Balancing sports with academics, Lanie maintains a stellar 3.9 GPA in the classroom and participates in several extracurricular activities, including Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Government Association, and Spanish Club.
She also serves as her class’s vice president, highlighting her commitment to leadership and service.
Lanie will graduate from Curry in May 2025 with plans to play softball at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, where she will pursue a degree in elementary education. With her passion for the game and commitment to education, there is no doubt she will be an impactful student-athlete for the Lions program and position herself for future success. WL
