Montgomery, Alabama – State Senator Greg Reed (R-Jasper), President Pro Tempore of the Alabama Senate, announced today over $500,000 in resources to support prevention and awareness of family and domestic violence in Northwest Alabama through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
“God calls us to help and love others, especially in their time of need,” said Reed. Tragically, there are instances where individuals are subject to domestic and family violence. These victims deserve love and dignity, and I am thankful to Governor Ivey and (ADECA) Director Boswell for allocating these funds to such deserving entities that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
The following is a list of recipients of this funding:
· The Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama, which serves Walker County.
· Crisis Center, Inc., which serves Jefferson and Walker Counties, among others.
· Turning Point, which serves Tuscaloosa, Lamar, and Fayette Counties, among others.
These funds will help offer shelter services to victims of domestic and family violence along with providing advocacy, support and safety services, and criminal and civil justice assistance to survivors. Additionally, a portion of these resources will go to education and raise awareness for family and domestic violence prevention in the area.
