It is with great awe and respect to our heritage that Sumiton Church of God celebrated 100 years of existence this past Sunday, November 5, 2023.

It has been an honor to serve our community and surrounding region with the hope of Jesus Christ! During our celebration, so many fond memories were shared, and influencers of the past and present were recognized for their impactful contribution to the people of Walker County, Jefferson County, and beyond.

Special guests Senator Greg Reed, Judge Joeletta Barrentine, and Judge Lee Tucker were in attendance, with Senator Reed presenting a special resolution specifically celebrating our Centennial Anniversary.

Additionally, Sarah Glover, Josh Smith, Blaine Johnson, and Dr. Devin Stephenson (President/CEO of Northwest Florida State College) led us into a momentous time of worship through song. Over 175 individuals merged their voices and instrumental talents onto the same stage that has housed generations of influential talent throughout the years.

Display after display that represented all areas of ministry captured the attention of all in attendance. All expectations were superseded on this special day. The house was packed, and plentiful were the smiles and expressions of gratitude.

We are extremely grateful to our 100-Year Anniversary committee: Pam Campbell (Chair), Glenda Dodd, Sarah Glover, Floyd and Sue Burton, Linda Gravlee, and Bruce Capps. Their commitment to detail and passion for our history paved the way for this unforgettable weekend.

Most of all, we are thankful to a loving God who has blessed Sumiton time and again. His hand has been on us in the past and will lead us boldly into the future. We certainly believe that Greater Is Coming. WL
