Pugh Embraces New Role as Executive Director at Southeast Hospice

Suzanne Pugh joined Southeast Hospice last December as the Director of Business Development. Her primary responsibility was to oversee and work alongside team members on development initiatives for each of the company’s locations throughout Alabama. Less than a year later, she has a new title.

Effective August 1, Pugh was named the company’s Executive Director with direct responsibility and oversight of daily operations and business development.

“The last eight months serving alongside the incredible team at Southeast Hospice has been such a blessing, and to know that we are able to help so many patients and families during such a difficult time in their lives,” Pugh said. “I am thankful and excited about this opportunity to serve as Executive Director.”

Alicia Stewart, President of Southeast Hospice, said that Pugh has been a wonderful addition to Southeast Hospice as Director of Business Development, but with long-time Executive Director Deb Wilson retiring soon, the timing was an answered prayer. “Suzanne brings a wealth of health care experience, and if you add in her natural leadership skills, her bright personality, and faith, she is an absolute perfect fit for our Executive Director position,” Stewart said. “Hospice is hard for all involved, and our staff is focused on our patients’ quality of life by showing love and compassion to them and their loved ones. Suzanne will help to ensure the patients and their families remain at the center of our care.”

Before joining Southeast Hospice, Pugh served in various leadership roles at Walker Baptist Medical Center, a 267-bed acute care hospital in Jasper, Alabama. She most recently served as the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), helping lead strategic initiatives to launch new service lines and programs while focusing on capital improvement projects and state-of-the-art equipment investments. Pugh is a 1995 graduate of The University of Alabama.

Southeast Hospice, a healthcare company providing hospice services to assist those needing end-of-life care, operates with the primary goal of ensuring that patients enjoy the highest possible quality of life while working toward eliminating the pain, fear, and loneliness that often accompanies an end-of-life journey.

Southeast Hospice continues to experience significant growth in 2023 with the number of patients and families served throughout Alabama. The company now has four offices, serving Walker County, the Greater Birmingham area, Lee County, and Montgomery County, along with the surrounding communities in those locations.

“The core values and mission of Southeast Hospice mean so much to me, and our team lives it out every day,” Pugh added. “This is truly a calling and an honor to care for others during their greatest time of need.”
