Jasper High Head Basketball Coach Heath Burns recently announced the dates of his upcoming summer basketball camp. The Heath Burns Basketball Academy will be held from Monday, June 26 to Wednesday, June 28, at Jasper High School’s Carl Cannon Coliseum. Both girls and boys are welcome.

“We believe that basketball camp should be a learning experience that’s a lot of fun!” Burns said. “We sincerely love our school and community. So, our coaching staff and players value meeting each camper and have pride in helping them improve their game, reaching their goals, and enjoying their time with us.”

According to Burns, the focus of the camp will be player development in 4 phases:

1) skill work with/without the basketball on both sides of the ball

2) high repetitions of skills to develop muscle memory

3) mental development/leadership/teamwork, and

4) character building.

In addition to instruction, there will be guest speakers, competitions, games, and prizes. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

Registration for Session 1 (Grades 1-4) will be held on June 26 from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

Registration for Session 2 (Grades 5-8) will be held on June 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., and camp will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

All activities will take place at Carl Cannon Coliseum.

Burns also stated that a GoFan app for pre-registration will be available the week of May 15.

Overall, Burns believes summer basketball camp should be a staple in the community, year-in and year-out.

“When I was a kid, Coach Clem’s basketball camp was the event nearly every kid in the county went to. I never missed,” Burns added. “We want to offer that same opportunity for the kids in and around Jasper. We can’t wait to see everyone in Carl Cannon Coliseum on June 26!” WL
