Jasper Mayor David O’Mary announced last Thursday that three major brands are coming to the city: Starbucks, Whataburger, and Mavis Discount Tire. The three high-profile companies will occupy a new development set to be constructed at 3101 Highway 78, the former home of Crump Nissan.
“Jasper continues to grow as a retail draw in the southern part of northwest Alabama, and I believe that the addition of these three entities will create an additional energy in the rapid retail growth that this city is experiencing,” O’Mary said. “The significant anticipated sales tax revenue that is anticipated will help us move along in our mission to build a better Jasper.”
These three companies join Rural King, set to open in the Jasper Mall within the next year, in the creation of over 100 jobs in the city. O’Mary also noted that the city had obtained a verbal commitment from another major brand and expects to announce it within two to three months.
While no specific timeline is set for the completion of the development, O’Mary says that he wouldn’t be surprised to have some of them up and running by the first quarter of 2024. WL
