Words and Images Special to The Walker Leader

On Thursday, March 30, 2023, Bevill State Community College hosted the first Bevill MAP: Making A Path event for high schools in the area. The event was held on the Bevill State Fayette Campus located at 2631 Temple Avenue N., Fayette, Alabama, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and was attended by approximately 600 9th-grade students from Fayette County Schools (9th and 10th grade), Pickens County Schools, Lamar County Schools, Winfield High School, and Pickens Academy. The students participated in hands-on activities with local businesses and industries.

“Bevill MAP is a wonderful opportunity for high school students that are served by the Bevill State Fayette Campus to have a dynamic experience with potential careers in the area. They will ‘Make A Path’ for their future by matching high-wage, high-demand programs at Bevill State with jobs that are available where they live. This is good for the students and the region as a whole. We want these bright young minds to stay in our communities,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College. “We are appreciative to Lavender, Inc. and all of the businesses that partnered with Bevill State to help make this event possible.”

Bevill MAP: Making A Path is an exciting, interactive workforce development outreach event designed to engage students in real-world simulations of high-demand career paths in our workforce region. This allows event attendees to learn how to Make A Path for the future by connecting Bevill State Community College education and training programs with real careers located right where they live.

Offered at no cost to students served by the Fayette Campus of Bevill State Community College, this event brings together post-secondary education with business and industry as part of a comprehensive effort to assist students in developing meaningful career knowledge and an empowered mindset.

Following the daytime event, Bevill State Community College hosted an exclusive Networking Event from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. for high school seniors currently enrolled in Dual Enrollment with Bevill State and any current BSCC student. This provided students with an opportunity to explore jobs, internships, and apprenticeships with the businesses participating in Bevill MAP: Making A Path.
