Jasper High School Wrestling Team Receives State Recognition

The remarkable season was highlighted by a victory in the 2022-2023 AHSAA 5A Region 6 Duals, where the Vikings emerged as champions.

During the Jasper City Schools Board Meeting held on March 27, Alabama State House Representative Matt Woods presented a resolution commending the Jasper High School wrestling team for their outstanding accomplishments during the 2022-2023 season.

The remarkable season was highlighted by a victory in the 2022-2023 AHSAA 5A Region 6 Duals, where the Vikings emerged as champions. The group also claimed the AHSAA 5A North Duals State Championship and the AHSAA 5A State Traditional Championship.

“It’s my privilege as a member of the House of Representatives to present HIR243 recognizing the Jasper High School wrestling team as state champions,” Woods said. “These guys did a great job representing their school, families, and community with class and integrity.”

In addition to presenting the resolution, Woods also read a letter to the team from Senator Greg Reed congratulating them on their successes.

Athletics Director Jonathan Jordan recognized coaches Tripp Otis, Hezzie Morgan, Chris Goetz, and Kalton Roye for their instrumental role in guiding the team to achieve their goals. Several individuals were also recognized for their outstanding performances during the season.

-Colin Langley – AHSAA State 3rd Place Finisher (285 pounds)

-Jamie Burnam – AHSAA State Runner Up (182 pounds)

-Carter Reid – AHSAA State 3rd Place Finisher (160 pounds)

-Garrett Caldwell – AHSAA State 4th Place Finisher (145 pounds)

-Ethan Caldwell – AHSAA State Runner-Up (132 pounds)

-Antonio Nash – AHSAA State 4th Place Finisher (126 pounds)

-Kortez Samuels – AHSAA State Runner-Up (113 pounds)

“If you didn’t get the chance to see these guys on the mat this season, you missed out,” Jordan said. “These young men put in a lot of effort and work, and we can’t say enough about how proud we are of them as a school district.” WL
