It does not take long for a student’s schedule to fill up with homework, sports practice, and club meetings. That does not include activities outside of school such as youth groups, jobs, and family-related activities. Everyone needs time off when Spring Break comes around, but when you are used to a full plate, having free time on your hands can grow boring… and quickly.
Here are some fun activities to enjoy in Walker County during Spring Break.
1. Spend the day at a lake.
Did you know that there are several parks along Smith Lake to enjoy? Clear Creek offers camping, walking trails, and even a beach where you can swim! Duncan Bridge Marina is located at the heart of the lake, which makes it the perfect spot for a boat launch. If you are looking for the spot to fish, head down to Smith Lake Dam or Walker County Lake.
Overall, the lake is a great place for the whole family to spend time offline and outdoors.
2. Go to Sonny’s Family Fun Center.
A room full of arcade games, go-karts, mini golf, and batting cages is sure to keep you busy at Sonny’s Family Fun Center. While you are playing, you are sure to work up an appetite, but Sonny’s has you covered. Visit their pizza bar for snacks and snow cones to finish off your day. No matter the weather forecast, Sonny’s has something for you.
3. Peruse the shops and eat at the restaurants and do all the things.
Shop your way through historic downtown Jasper. Along Jasper’s Main Street, there are several stores for all your shopping needs. Stop by Bernard’s Store for Men to grab a cool t-shirt or a new pair of sunglasses. Looking for a new book? Paper Places Bookshop has just what you are looking for. There are multiple boutiques where you can find a new outfit: Carol’s, Gibson Girl, Harbin’s, and more. And when you need a shopping break, visit one of the delicious restaurants that are spread throughout downtown.
4. Get in a round of golf.
Play a round of golf at beautiful Horse Creek Golf Course in Dora. This is the perfect activity to grab a group of friends and head outside for the day. With 18 holes, you are sure to stay busy…and who doesn’t love some friendly competition?
Before you know it, your week is full, and Spring Break is over. There are several more activities to experience in and around Walker County, but don’t forget the importance of rest—you’ll need the energy this summer. WL
