Since its opening in 2022, Mi Michoacana has become the local go-to spot for traditional Mexican treats. Following Adrian De Rueda’s thirteen-year career in food service, he and his wife, Susan, decided to branch out and offer authentic recipes from Adrian’s hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Susan’s hometown of Michoacán, Mexico, to their fellow residents in Walker County.
“The main goal was to expose the community to something from my hometown, like our homemade ice cream, and through that, we’ve gained an American community around us that loves it too,” says Adrian.
Mi Michoacana offers everything from homemade ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, popsicles, and crepes to nachos, street foods, and, on the weekends, ramen. The store’s success has spurred the De Ruedas’ decision to purchase an ice cream truck, which will soon be available for parties, events, and festivals.
In celebration of Mi Michoacana’s success and popular delicious treats, The Walker Leader visited the shop to highlight – and taste-test – three bestsellers anyone can enjoy!
Peach & Strawberry Cream Crepe
The peach & strawberry cream crepe is a light, delectable dessert filled with a thin layer of cream cheese and topped with peaches, strawberries, whipped cream, and a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk. The pairing of the crepe, creams, and sauces with fresh fruit makes for a lightly sweet dessert big enough to share or save some for later!
Cookies & Cream Milkshake
A cookies & cream milkshake is a classic treat that almost everyone loves, but the version available at Mi Michoacana is a step above. Traditional homemade Mexican ice cream, Oreo cookie bits, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream mixed together and garnished with a whole Oreo! Quality, freshness, and pure deliciousness all in one drink.
Dori Locos
Dori Locos is a loaded nacho dish featuring nacho cheese Doritos smothered with cabbage, tomato, cilantro, corn, nacho cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits. The dish, also known as Doritos Guero’s Way, is a unique, mouth-watering twist on loaded nachos.
