Meet Austin Scobey, a junior at Sumiton Christian School who leaves an indelible mark on the baseball diamond while embodying the qualities of a quiet yet caring teammate. With abundant potential, Austin significantly contributes to the Eagles’ success on the diamond, serving as the backbone of the infield, alternating between third and second base, and adapting to whatever role is needed for the team.
A versatile athlete, Austin excels in baseball, basketball, and football. While his favorite sport is baseball, a passion cultivated since age three, he has developed into a well-rounded athlete. Austin attributes his growth to coaches Lance Blair, Jeremy Moon, and Matt Yarbrough.
As the Sumiton Christian baseball team embarks on a new chapter with Coach Ricky Bowen taking the helm on February 15, succeeding the retiring Lance Blair, Austin reflects on the transition: “It’s sad to see Coach Blair go, but I believe Coach Bowen is going to do well. He played college and professional baseball and was under Coach Blair at SCS, so it’s going to be good.”
Anticipating his graduation in 2025, Austin envisions playing college baseball, yet remains undecided on a major. Eager to showcase his skills, he aims for recognition by attending baseball camps at Florida State, Baylor, and George Washington University. Post-college, his dream is to play Major League Baseball. Should that not materialize, he expresses interest in becoming a lineman for Alabama Power.

Beyond the playing field, Austin enjoys spending time with family and friends, riding his dirt bike, and actively participating in the Sumiton Church of God youth group.
When asked to define himself, Austin replies, “I’m a servant. I want to make sure other people are being taken care of. If someone asks me to do something or help them, I do no questions asked, and try to have the best attitude I can have while doing it.”
This dedication to being a good teammate and serving others has created a buzz in the community, as Austin and the Eagles are determined to make Coach Ricky Bowen’s first season a season to remember. WL
