Calling all pets and pet owners!
This Saturday, October 21, the community is hosting two exciting events: the 21st Annual Pets on Parade and Pooch Plunge.
Start the day off at Pets on Parade, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Gamble Park. Enter your pet (dog, cat, hamster, bird, rabbit, horse, or pig – all are welcome!) in one of these fun categories:
- Cutest
- Best Costume
- Most Unusual
- Owner Lookalike
- Best Wiggle Butt
- Best Kisses
- Best in Talking
“The Chamber of Commerce Junior Ambassadors’ project is raising money for those who adopt pets and need help financially to spay and neuter those pets,” said Linda Lewis, President of The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County. “We invite the community to come to Gamble Park and bring their pets to participate in Pets on Parade. It’s a family event and it’s going to be great fun!”
There is a $5 entry fee, and each category will have first, second, third, and honorable mention prizes; all proceeds benefit the Walker County Humane Society Spay and Neuter Program. This event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County Junior Ambassadors; for more information, please call (205) 384-4571.
After Pets on Parade, head over to the Memorial Park Natatorium for Pooch Plunge from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The cost is $5 per dog, and all proceeds benefit R.U.F.F. (Rescuers United for Furbabies). There will be Pup swimming (all pets must be vaccinated; swimming is for pups only), Paw Art with Sarah O’Mary Roberts, onsite puppy adoptions, dog treats and pup cups, hot dogs and barbecue, event bandanas, and doggy bags.
Financial contributions and donations of pet supplies and food are greatly appreciated! Please bring all donations to the door and send your financial contributions on PayPal (RUFFrescue@yahoo.com) or Venmo (@RUFFrescueAL).
