Walker County is celebrating a significant milestone with the successful completion of its first Skid Steer Certification class. The non-credit program, offered free of charge in partnership with the Alabama Community College System’s Innovation Center’s Skills for Success, is a crucial step in preparing individuals for careers in heavy equipment operation.
Six individuals have emerged from the program with the knowledge and skills to operate skid steer equipment effectively. These newly certified operators are Daniel Harris, Brian Browning, Caleb May, Daniel Partridge, Johnny Hargett, and Patrick Gambrill.
Jason Crump, the program’s instructor, played a vital role in guiding these individuals through their training.
The Skid Steer Certification training was conducted at the former Cupps Coal Yard in Empire, providing participants with valuable hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
The completion of the first Skid Steer Certification class is just the beginning of a more extensive effort by Bevill State Community College. They are planning to offer additional free training programs for excavator and bulldozer operation, further expanding opportunities for individuals interested in heavy equipment operation.
