The City of Cordova is hosting a Community Meeting at Cordova City Hall on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow at 6:00.
This meeting will allow citizens to give input on Cordova’s latest Comprehensive Plan, made possible by a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The plan will cover traffic issues, redevelopment of downtown areas, outdoor projects, and the process of rebranding Cordova as an outdoor recreation destination. Public involvement is highly requested to cater this plan to the community’s wants and needs.
Cordova’s Director of Economic Development, Renee Sides, says, “This is a great opportunity for people to hear what’s going on, but to also have their voice heard. They’re going to hear from city officials, and they’re going to hear about what’s going on, but this is an opportunity for them to help shape the future of Cordova.”
The meeting will pose the following questions:
- What does the public believe to be working?
- What is not working?
- What does Cordova need to do moving forward?
Those planning to attend are asked to consider their opinions on the following subjects beforehand:
The meeting will also include an update on current town projects, such as the $6.4 million RAISE grant from the Federal Highway Administration, awarded last year to repair Cordova’s roads. Other projects to be discussed include:
- New playground equipment.
- New pickleball and basketball courts.
- Developments at Disney Lake.
- Current water and sewage projects.
- A new business incubator in town that will house up to five new businesses.
This meeting will be the first of two centered on the Comprehensive Plan; the first is for community feedback, and the second to present the plan.
Community participation is encouraged at both meetings. Those unable to attend are encouraged to take this survey: surveymonkey.com/r/CordovaCompPlan WL
