Now Hiring: Assistant County Engineer for Walker County Commission

The Walker County Commission is now accepting applications for a full-time position as Assistant County Engineer. The starting salary will be according to the ALDOT Civil Engineering Graduate Salary Range. This position is full time, exempt from overtime, and includes a benefit package.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution and must be a registered Engineer in Training or a Professional Engineer with the Alabama Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the County Engineer, the Assistant County Engineer performs a wide range of duties, including but not limited to, managing the maintenance and construction of roads and bridges within the Walker County Road and Bridge System; planning and implementing the work of the Engineering and Road Department under the general policies established by the County Engineer; supervising personnel in the absence of the County Engineer, and making decisions regarding maintenance and construction activities and projects. Ability to obtain ALDOT certifications for various types of inspection and assist the general public with research and provide general information. Ability to work non-standard hours, ability to work in various extremes of inclement weather, ability to communicate with the contractor on the phone and in person. Ability to be on call and assist with emergencies as required. Performs other duties as assigned by the County Engineer.
