Bevill State Community College Appoints Jim Trotter as Part-Time Choral Director

Bevill State Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Trotter as the College’s new Part-Time Choral Director.

Trotter has studied and played piano for 25 years and is an accomplished pianist and vocalist with training in both classical and contemporary performance. He currently serves as Worship Leader at First Baptist Church of Jasper, where he leads music ministry and weekly worship services.

A graduate of New College at the University of Alabama, Trotter completed a depth study titled “Managing and Promoting the Entertainment Industry,” reflecting his longstanding passion for the business and artistry of music. While at the University of Alabama, he performed with the University Singers and the University of Alabama Opera Theatre, refining his vocal and ensemble performance skills.

Trotter was the first Alabamian selected to participate in the GRAMMY Foundation’s GRAMMY Camp, attending the prestigious program in both 2010 and 2011 — a distinction that highlights his early commitment to musical excellence and professional development. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi and the University of Alabama New College Support Board, continuing his engagement with the broader arts and education community.

As Part-Time Choral Director, Trotter will lead choral instruction and performance initiatives, supporting Bevill State’s commitment to enriching students’ educational experiences through the arts.

“I am thrilled to join the Bevill State family and help build a choral program that will serve students and enrich our community for years to come,” said Trotter. “Music has the power to bring people together, and I look forward to creating opportunities for students to discover and develop their talents at Bevill State.”

Beyond his musical pursuits, Trotter serves as Vice President of Development and Marketing for the Walker Area Community Foundation, where he leads fundraising, marketing, and donor engagement initiatives that support community investment and economic impact throughout the region. He works closely with business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professional advisors to connect charitable giving with meaningful causes.

Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College, expressed his enthusiasm about Trotter’s appointment, “Jim’s passion for music, combined with his leadership experience and deep community roots, make him an outstanding addition to our fine arts program. We are excited to welcome him to Bevill State and look forward to the energy and excellence he will bring to our choral program.”

Fifteen choral scholarships will be awarded for the 2026–2027 academic year. Audition dates and requirements will be announced at a later date.
