City of Jasper Introduces Homelessness Response Steering Committee

JASPER, AL – The City of Jasper formally introduced the members of its Homelessness Response Steering Committee during the Jasper City Council meeting on Tuesday morning. The formation of this committee marks an important step forward in the implementation of the City of Jasper Homelessness Response Framework presented to Council earlier this year.

The Steering Committee will play a key role in guiding the early phases of the Framework by supporting coordination, data collection efforts, community collaboration, and evaluation of next steps as the City works toward a thoughtful, humane, and organized response to homelessness.

This action represents continued progress within the timeline outlined in the Framework, particularly in the areas of governance, communication, and community coordination. Establishing the Steering Committee is one of the first measurable milestones identified to ensure the work moves forward with accountability and shared leadership.

“Homelessness is a challenge that requires many perspectives and a willingness to work together,” said Mayor Josh Gates. “The individuals serving on this committee were thoughtfully chosen because of their care for our community and the unique perspectives they bring to the table. I am grateful for their willingness to serve, to offer their time, and to be part of this important work for Jasper. Their leadership will help us move forward in a way that is responsible, data-driven, and mindful of both compassion and public safety.”

The Homelessness Response Steering Committee will assist the City in reviewing information gathered through data systems, strengthening communication among community partners, and helping ensure the goals and timelines outlined in the Framework continue to progress.
