Joining his father, Rodney, at Home Pros Roofing wasn’t part of Josh Pruett’s long-term plan, but it was the right decision at the right time. After years of teaching math and coaching football and softball at Mortimer Jordan High School, the father of three found himself in a season of change, both personally and professionally.
“My wife and I had just had our third child,” Josh says. “We were learning how to manage life with three kids, and I was gone a lot in the evenings. I didn’t dislike teaching; I loved parts of it and still miss some of it, but it was hard on the family. My dad and I were talking about it, and he happened to be at a point where he needed help with his business. The door opened, and we went for it.”
That door led Josh to Home Pros Roofing – a name known throughout the local community for craftsmanship, honesty, and quality work. The company’s reputation is built on the same standard that Josh grew up watching his father live by: if it’s something a Pruett is going to do, it should be done to the best of your ability, until it’s perfect, or as close as you can get.
“As a teenager, I couldn’t stand it,” Josh admits with a laugh. “I just wanted to get things done and move on. But my dad has always believed that no matter what it is – relationships, ordering materials, or the actual roofing work – you do your best every single day. That’s stuck with me.”
Now working side by side, father and son bring complementary strengths to the business. Josh’s background in teaching and coaching has sharpened his communication and problem-solving skills, while his math background has proven useful when calculating roof measurements and materials. He has also brought a modern touch to Home Pros, helping to streamline and automate processes with technology.

“My dad had figured out formulas on his own without realizing it,” Josh says. “I pointed it out to him one day, and he just laughed. We balance each other well. He’s the kind who will power through and do it all himself, and I’m always looking for smarter, more efficient ways to get things done without compromising quality.”
While roofing and gutter work are demanding trades, Josh says his favorite part of the job isn’t the physical side, it’s the people.
“I love meeting homeowners and seeing the relief on their faces when the job is finished,” he says. “Roofing isn’t something most people think about until there’s a problem. When I can give someone peace of mind and a sense of being taken care of, that’s the best part.”
As for the future, Josh sees Home Pros continuing to grow in a way that stays true to the company’s roots. “Right now, we’re in a growth stage,” he says. “My vision is to expand steadily, not so quickly that we can’t keep up. I want us to lay a strong foundation for growth while holding onto what’s made us successful: personal relationships and trust with homeowners. We can’t lose that.”
Josh and his wife, Brandi, live locally with their three children—Cooper, Jack, and Ellie—who are already learning the same lessons about integrity and hard work that have defined the Pruett name for generations.
“I told my dad recently that I have no idea how he did it all on his own for so long,” Josh says. “Running a business, maintaining a strong reputation, and still being a husband and father is a lot. But getting to do this together now is something I really value.” WL
