Bevill State to Host “Recovery Is Here” Event in Partnership with AARR and The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County

Bevill State Community College, in partnership with the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences (AARR) and the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County, will host a “Recovery Is Here” community event on Friday, September 26, at the Jasper Civic Center, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

This event is part of a statewide initiative held during National Recovery Month, which has been recognized every September since 1989. The movement celebrates recovery, uplifts those on the journey, and raises awareness about effective treatment and support for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.

The “Recovery Is Here” event will include:

  • Resource Fair: Local and statewide organizations will provide information on recovery services, education, and support.
  • Resourcing Recovery Presentation: Attendees will learn how to access critical recovery resources for themselves or loved ones.
  • Live Recovery Stories: Local individuals will share their recovery journeys through the Respect Initiative, followed by an interactive Q&A.
  • Guest Remarks: Leaders in education, recovery, and community organizations will provide inspiring messages of support and hope.

Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College, emphasized the College’s commitment to supporting this important initiative:

“At Bevill State, we believe education and community partnerships are vital tools for building hope and opportunity. Recovery touches nearly every family in some way, and it is our responsibility to be part of the solution. By working together with organizations like AARR and the Chamber, we can help individuals in our community access the resources they need to reclaim their lives. Recovery is not only possible, it is here.”

Curt Lindsley, Executive Director of the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences and Campaign Director for Recovery Is Here, added:

“Substance use disorder affects millions of Americans. We are showing up with real solutions, real support, and real hope. This is not just about awareness, it is about action. Recovery is not just possible. Recovery is here.”

This community event is free and open to the public.
