Paper Places Book Shop in Jasper welcomed a special guest on Saturday, June 14.
14-year-old Charlie Owens held his first book signing for his debut children’s book, The Adventures of Charlie: Delighting in Differences.

Charlie, a student at Jasper High School, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at age two. Now a published author and illustrator, he is using his creative talents to advocate for inclusion and acceptance. His book, co-written with his mother, A.D. Owens, follows a young boy named Charlie as he explores a whimsical world called Diddlywhirlville – where every difference is something to be celebrated. Through vibrant storytelling and artwork, the book celebrates neurodiversity and encourages readers of all ages to delight in what makes people different.

The signing drew a steady stream of supporters, including Representative Matt Woods, who presented Charlie and his mom with an official resolution from the Alabama House of Representatives, commending their work in raising awareness and promoting understanding through literature. It praises the book as “an invaluable educational tool” and recognizes the Owens family’s efforts to create a more inclusive community where people of all backgrounds and abilities feel supported.
The Adventures of Charlie: Delighting in Differences is available at Paper Places and through major online booksellers. WL
