Southern Energy Credit Union recently celebrated the grand opening of its newest branch, located at 410 9th Avenue in Jasper, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Chamber of Commerce leaders, city officials, and community members.

Formerly known as APCO Employees Credit Union, Southern Energy has deep roots in Alabama, dating back to 1953 when it was formed through the merger of three credit unions serving Alabama Power employees. Today, it is the largest state-chartered credit union in Alabama, with assets exceeding $3 billion and a growing presence across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.

The new Jasper branch is the third location in the city. Southern Energy President and CEO Derek Ragland noted that Jasper is one of the top-performing markets across the institution’s 30-branch network.

“This community has supported us from the very beginning, and this branch is a direct result of that loyalty,” Ragland said. “We’re honored to expand our services right here in Jasper.”

Southern Energy Credit Union offers the same modern financial products and services as traditional banks but with a not-for-profit model focused on member success.

The new branch will operate alongside Southern Energy’s existing Jasper locations at 706 20th Avenue East and 2501 Highway 78 West, providing expanded access and convenience for members.

“Our mission has always been to power our members’ financial success with trusted solutions and personal service,” Ragland said. “We’re proud to continue that legacy here.” WL
