Patrick Darwin has been named the new principal of Jasper High School, effective at the start of the 2025–2026 school year. A longtime member of the school’s faculty and leadership team, Darwin steps into the role with a focus on building strong relationships, supporting students, and continuing the school’s mission of excellence.
Darwin joined Jasper High School in 2011 as a business education teacher after earning his degree from the University of North Alabama. Over the years, he also served as head track coach and assistant football coach before transitioning into administration. He became assistant principal in 2021.
“Becoming a high school principal has been a long-term goal for me,” Darwin says. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity at a school that means so much to me.”
Originally from Hazel Green, Alabama, Darwin was influenced early on by a family rooted in education and community involvement. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he returned to his hometown high school for one year before moving to Walker County. He later earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and recently completed an education specialist degree at the University of North Alabama.
Darwin says his priorities as principal include ensuring the school runs efficiently, creating leadership opportunities for staff, and helping students find ways to get involved through academics, arts, athletics, and extracurriculars.

“When students feel connected, they’re more invested,” he says. “Whether it’s a club, a sport, or something else, I want every student to feel like they’re part of something.”
He also plans to stay visible as a way to maintain communication with students, families, and staff.
“Social media is a great tool for transparency,” he says. “But it’s just as important to be present in the building and in the community.”
Darwin and his wife, Katelyn Sparks Darwin, live in Jasper with their two children, Ella Ann and John Wells. When he’s not at school, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
Looking ahead, Darwin said he’s excited to continue working with students and staff in a new capacity.
“This is a great school with a strong foundation,” he says. “I’m honored to be part of it, and I’m ready to get to work.” WL
