Bevill State Community College is proud to announce a successful collaboration between its Sumiton campus nursing faculty and clinical partner DCH Health System to deliver a hands-on, progressive CPR simulation designed to enhance nursing students’ readiness for real-world emergency response.
The simulation event, held on March 18, 2025, provided an immersive training experience for students across all levels of the nursing program. First-semester and second-semester students began the day with instruction and practice in basic CPR techniques using automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The simulation culminated in an advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) code scenario executed by fourth-semester students, reflecting the complexities and critical thinking required in real-life code situations.

“At Bevill State, we are always seeking innovative ways to better prepare our students for the realities of their chosen fields,” said Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College. “This partnership with DCH Health System highlights the power of collaboration in education and ensures our nursing students are gaining the critical, hands-on experience they need to be confident and capable professionals when they enter the workforce.”
“This partnership with DCH Health System exemplifies our commitment to providing high-impact, hands-on learning opportunities for our students,” said Dr. Melissa Mays, Nursing Division Chair at the Sumiton campus. “It’s vital that our future nurses are prepared to respond quickly and efficiently when every second counts.”

By engaging students in realistic, high-stakes scenarios that progress in complexity throughout the program, BSCC and DCH are reinforcing the essential skills and confidence needed to save lives.
