Becoming a dentist was a dream that Dr. Ansley Allen held onto since she was five years old.
As the new owner of Once Upon a Smile Children’s Dentistry, formerly Jill Gamotis Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry, Ansley is blending her passion for creating positive experiences with a commitment to providing exceptional care.
Ansley’s path to dentistry started with a bit of inspiration close to home.
“Growing up, I had a pediatric dentist in Birmingham, Dr. Bishop, whom I absolutely loved and adored,” she recalls. “Like most kids, people would ask me, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ From that young age, I always said I wanted to be a dentist.”
That dream never wavered. Ansley earned her biology degree at the University of Alabama, but the path forward wasn’t without challenges. When she didn’t get into dental school on her first try, she completed a master’s program at Samford University, determined to keep going. Her persistence paid off when she was accepted to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) School of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, Florida, where she earned her dental degree.

While Ansley started her career in general dentistry, she felt she’d eventually find her way to pediatrics. A turning point came when Dr. Jill Gamotis allowed her to work one day a week in a pediatric setting.
“That experience confirmed what I already felt,” Ansley shares. “I realized this was exactly what I wanted to do.”
What Ansley loves most about pediatrics is the opportunity to create a positive impact on children’s dental experiences.
“Many adults share horror stories about their childhood dentist visits,” she says. “I want to change that narrative and make their visits as positive and comfortable as possible.”
When Jill began considering semi-retirement, Ansley approached her about her plans. What started as a conversation about partnership evolved into Jill trusting Ansley to take the helm at the practice.
“She believed in my ability to carry on the practice,” Ansley says. “We’re both from Jasper and share a deep connection with this community.”
Jill now focuses on hospital cases and continues to support Ansley when needed.
Leading Once Upon a Smile is an honor Ansley doesn’t take lightly.
“Jill built a practice that puts patients first while prioritizing being a wife and mom. She’s been a role model for me, and I’m grateful for the foundation she created,” she says.
Ansley’s priority is ensuring every child and family feels welcome and at ease. The Disney-inspired decor, cheerful music, and accommodating staff create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
“We’re big Disney fans, so we’ve incorporated that fun vibe into the office,” she explains.

She and her team also pay close attention to each child’s needs. Whether it’s allowing patients to wear pajamas, bring a favorite stuffed animal, or use headphones during treatment, the team at Once Upon a Smile ensures every visit is as stress-free as possible.
When she’s not at work, Ansley enjoys spending time with her husband, Hunter, their three-year-old daughter, Leila Mae, and their golden retriever, Beau.
As a family, they love traveling, especially to the beach. Ansley also enjoys playing tennis and working out, but she most treasures her family’s time together.
Though she never expected to return to her hometown, Ansley has found a deep appreciation for Jasper.
“The community has blossomed with new opportunities, and it’s a wonderful place to raise a family,” she says. “Having both my family and Hunter’s family nearby makes it even better.”
As Ansley steps into her new role, she’s focused on continuing the practice’s legacy while introducing her own innovations. Guided by her childhood dream and the values instilled by her mentor, she’s committed to making every child’s dental visit something to smile about. WL
