Music enthusiasts and history lovers are invited to the Carl Elliott Regional Library – Jasper Public Library on Thursday, January 30, at 6 p.m. for a special evening of music, storytelling, and cultural heritage.
Renowned music historian and folklorist Joyce Cauthen will present Way Down in Alabam: Finding Old-time Fiddlers and Their Tunes.
Cauthen, celebrated for her work preserving Alabama’s rich musical traditions, will share tales and tunes that spotlight the state’s deep-rooted folk heritage and the fiddle’s timeless role in it.
This free event, part of the quarterly event series for the adult programs at the Jasper Public Library, is open to the public and offers a unique opportunity to experience the stories and songs that shaped Alabama’s musical history.
Library Director Sandra Underwood previously told The Walker Leader, “We have so many wonderful programs for children, but we want to do more for adults in the community, including events where they can learn more about what makes the State of Alabama unique.”
Whether you’re a fan of folk music, intrigued by regional storytelling, or simply looking for an enriching evening, this event promises to celebrate Alabama’s cultural vibrance.
Made possible by the Alabama Humanities Alliance, the program underscores the importance of connecting communities through shared history and artistic traditions.
Don’t miss this chance to enjoy live music, captivating stories, and the enduring charm of old-time Alabama fiddlers! WL
