Cordova First Baptist Church invites the community to join in the spirit of giving at their annual Lottie Moon Christmas Auction on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
The beloved tradition begins at 4:45 p.m. with finger foods and a silent auction, followed by the live auction at 6 p.m.
The auction is held in honor of Charlotte Digges “Lottie” Moon (1840-1912), who spent a large part of her life serving Baptist missions in China. Each year at Christmas time, churches all over the world take up the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering that helps support over 3,000 missionaries outside of North America.
“We’ve been hosting this auction for six years now, and it’s become something the church and the community look forward to,” says Randy Barnes, Minister of Worship and Missions Coordinator at Cordova First Baptist. “It’s a chance to come together, enjoy some good food, and contribute to a cause that makes a global impact. International missionaries rely on this offering for their livelihood.”
The auction will feature a wide range of items, including baked goods, gift baskets, handmade crafts, gift cards, electronics, items specifically for men and women, vacations to Lake Guntersville, Ala., Gatlinburg, Tenn., and much more.
“Our silent auction typically has around 60 items, and the live auction features 12 to 15,” Barnes explains. “What makes it special is the combination of contributions. We have incredibly talented church members who make items for the auction, others who donate gift cards or experiences like vacation stays, and local businesses who get involved. It’s amazing to see how much it grows each year, and we invite everyone to participate.”
