  • The City of Dora’s Economic Development Strategic Plan Community Meeting

When: 6 PM
Where: 1485 Sharon Boulevard, Dora, AL 35062

Dora is partnering with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham to conduct an Economic Development Strategic Plan to identify the city’s development assets and strengths. The City of Dora welcomes residents’ feedback regarding the types of economic development projects they would like to see. To RSVP for the meeting, please contact Stacy Turner at 205-648-3211.

Thursday, June 27

  • Sheriff’s Fitness Challenge

When: 9:30 AM
Where: Jasper Police Range | 1311 West Gamble Drive, Jasper, AL 35501

High school athletes are invited to take part in this special obstacle course, dubbed the Sheriff’s Challenge! Please register ahead of time by contacting the department recruiter, Chris Webb, at c.webb@walkercountysheriff.com. The course will be open from 8 – 9 AM for little ones to try their hand at it. Little ones can also receive a t-shirt if parents email ahead of time to request one.

  • Multi-Employer Coal Mining Natural Resource Energy Job Fair

When: 9 AM – 1 PM
Where: Jasper Career Center | 604 Viking Drive, Jasper, AL 35501

Employers attending include: Warrior Met Coal, Drummond Company, Peabody Energy, Crimson Oak Grove, SAIIA, and Jamas Technology. For more information, contact Jan Hawkins at 205-221-2576.

Friday, June 28

  • Free Farmers Market for Walker County Families Hosted by Boldo Community Christian Church

When: 10 AM – 12 PM
Where: 55 Gray Road, Jasper, AL 35504

Families in need will have access to free produce and the church clothes closet. Representatives from various organizations will be available to share information and assist with enrollment in Medicaid, food stamps, and other family services. For more information, call 205-265-1829.

Saturday, June 29

  • The 14th Annual Landshark Run-Swim-Run, presented by the Jasper Swim Team

When: 7 AM
Where: Memorial Park Natatorium | 610 10th Avenue, Jasper, AL 35501

Join the Jasper Swim Team for the 14th annual Landshark RUN-SWIM-RUN! This event will consist of a 2-mile run, 200-yard swim, and another 2-mile run. The course can be completed as a 1-, 2-, or 3-person team. Landshark registration forms are available at the Natatorium. The registration fee is $25 per participant and includes a race shirt!

  • Cordova’s Independence Day Celebration

When: 2 – 9:30 PM
Where: Indian Head Mill Park | 430 School Street, Cordova, AL 35550

Enjoy this America 250 Event, featuring live music, food trucks, vendors, games, water slides, American history, and a fireworks show!

  • Faith, Fireworks, and Freedom

When: 6:30 PM
Where: Prospect Independent Church | 3505 Prospect Road, Nauvoo, AL 35578

Enjoy free food, games, and fireworks in an early Independence Day celebration!

  • District 5 Community – Frisco/Coke Oven Day

When: 10 AM – 8 PM
Where: A.P. Howell Park | The corner of 25th Street West and Martin Luther King Jr Dr., Jasper, AL 35501

Jasper District 5 residents are invited to join in on a day of fun, including a 12U kickball game at noon, a rematch softball game, entertainment by DJ King Vamp, and several vendors.
