Bevill State Appoints Beth Borders as Cheerleader Sponsor

“Beth Borders is an exceptional addition to our team. Her impressive background and dedication will attract top-tier cheerleaders to represent Bevill State, enhancing our program’s reputation and spirit.” - President of Bevill State Community College Dr. Joel Hagood

Bevill State Community College (BSCC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Beth Borders as the new Sponsor for Bevill State Cheerleading. The Bevill State Cheerleading squad proudly supports the BSCC Basketball program located on the Jasper Campus.

Beth Borders brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to her new role. A 1997 graduate of Cold Springs High School, Beth was not only a cheerleader but also served as Captain and earned the prestigious title of UCA All American. She continued her education at the Bevill State Sumiton Campus, graduating with an associate in arts degree in 1999. Beth then pursued her passion for education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2002 and a Master of Arts in Education and English in 2005. She furthered her qualifications with a Master of Arts in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama in 2017.

Beth’s professional career has been marked by her dedication to teaching and mentoring young students. She has spent most of her teaching career in the 8th grade English classroom at Maddox Middle and Jasper Jr High. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Beth served as the Instructional Coach at the junior high and has recently completed her second year as a school counselor at Maddox Intermediate. Her involvement in cheerleading has been a constant throughout her career.

Beth began coaching the Maddox Middle cheerleaders in 2002, where she played a pivotal role in transitioning Jasper City School cheerleaders to perform stunts. Her squads attended various NCA and UCA camps, with many winning the Walker County Championships, and her 2015 squad securing second place in the state. From 2017 to 2020, Beth coached the Jasper High cheerleaders, guiding them to significant achievements, including a fifth-place finish at the state level during the 2018/2019 season, and leading her 2019/2020 squad to victory at Regionals and a third-place finish in the state. Her team also won the Southern Championship competition.

After retiring from coaching in 2020, Beth continued to support the squad as a “cheer mom” to her daughter, Lydia, who served as captain from 2021-2023. Beth has also judged numerous cheerleading tryouts across the state and assisted squads with game day material and stunts. Her daughter, Lydia, is now entering her second year on the UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) coaching staff and was nominated for Rookie of the Year. Lydia is a sophomore at The University of Alabama, majoring in Pre-PT. Beth’s son, Landon, is an upcoming eighth grader at Jasper Jr High, where he excels in football, basketball, and baseball. Beth and her husband, Rob, have been married for 22 years and reside in Jasper.

Chris Harris, Bevill State Athletic Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, “Beth Borders is a dynamic leader with extensive knowledge in cheerleading. Her expertise will provide an outstanding experience for our cheer team members and introduce new scholarship opportunities for passionate students in our service area who support Bevill State Athletics.”

Beth Borders shared her excitement about the new role, commenting, “I am honored to join the Bevill State family as the Cheer Sponsor. Cheerleading has been a lifelong passion, and I look forward to bringing my experience to the BSCC program. Together, we will build a strong and spirited squad that will uplift our athletic teams and instill a sense of pride in our community.”

Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College, added, “Beth Borders is an exceptional addition to our team. Her impressive background and dedication will attract top-tier cheerleaders to represent Bevill State, enhancing our program’s reputation and spirit.”
