Jasper High School senior William Johnson recently signed with Wallace State-Hanceville and will join the tennis team under the instruction of Coach Tim Garner.
Tennis piqued William’s interest when he was just seven years old, and the game’s competitive nature has drawn him ever since. He continued playing throughout high school for three years at 1st position and going 28-1 in his senior season.
Playing college tennis was always the goal, and when Garner contacted William, the dream was set in motion. He visited several colleges, but none stood out quite like Wallace.
“I’m looking forward to hitting with the players there and continuing to improve. I like the area, and I like the coach and the players. They’ve got a great lineup there, and it’s an awesome opportunity to be on the team,” says William.
William has been driven not only by the game’s competition but also by its excitement. Tennis is a hardcore, full-body sport that constantly challenges its athletes, and matches can get loud and intense. But he looks forward to chasing that excitement as he seizes the opportunities ahead.
William wishes to thank his Jasper High School tennis coach, Christian Matthews, for constantly pushing him to improve. He says he looks forward to working with Coach Garner and the Wallace tennis team.
The Walker Leader congratulates William and wishes him the best of luck going forward! WL
