As spring nears, runners in Walker County can anticipate exciting opportunities to hit the pavement and engage in healthy competition. Whether you’re a seasoned racer aiming for a personal best, a newcomer eager to join the fun, or a family seeking an enjoyable outing, the upcoming Curry Track and Field 5K and Jasper Main Street Shamrock Shake events provide perfect avenues to embrace community, fitness, and togetherness!
Curry Track and Field 5K: Yellow Jacket Run/Walk
Curry Track & Field presents its inaugural Yellow Jacket 5K run/walk on February 25 at 3:00 pm. Hosted at Curry High School, the race aims to raise funds to support the middle school and high school track and field teams. Participants can contribute to the success of local student-athletes while enjoying a run through the community.
Registration for the event is $25 per person, payable in cash or check on race day. The course starts and finishes at the new high school gym parking lot. Prizes will be awarded to the first-place male and female finishers.
“Please come out and support the Curry Track and Field team in our first-ever Yellow Jacket 5K! This is a perfect opportunity to help us encourage our community to live an active and healthy lifestyle,” says Curry Track and Field coach Anna Claire Harris.

Jasper Main Street Shamrock Shake
Prepare for a festive celebration of fitness and fun with the Jasper Main Street Shamrock Shake on March 16. This lively event transforms Historic Downtown Jasper into a bustling hub of activity, with a 5K, 1 Mile Fun Run, Kids Leprechaun Dash, and various other festivities.
Participants of all ages are encouraged to don their finest Shamrock and Leprechaun attire for a day filled with laughter, live music, and community spirit. The festivities kick off at 4:00 pm on 19th Street West between 2nd and 3rd Avenue, with pre-race registration and packet pickup available the day before at Warehouse 319.
Registration for the Shamrock Shake includes:
- A race t-shirt (available for the first 90 registrants)
- A race bib
- Glow/bead necklace
- A swag bag
Additionally, registrants of age receive a wristband granting access to post-race drink specials at Warehouse 319, ensuring the fun continues long after the race concludes.
For families with young children, the FREE Kids Leprechaun Dash offers a chance for the little ones to join in the excitement. With a two-block route and no registration required, it’s the perfect opportunity for budding runners to experience the thrill of crossing the finish line.
The race day agenda is packed with activities, including live music on Courthouse Square, a post-race party, and awards ceremonies recognizing top finishers and best-dressed participants.
