Over the past few months, the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB) has worked alongside Cordova residents and city leaders in crafting the Cordova Comprehensive Plan—a document designed to serve as a roadmap for transforming the community’s vision into a sustainable reality. This comprehensive plan encompasses nine chapters, each crucial in outlining the community’s future trajectory.

Now, as the plan takes shape, the community seeks the active involvement of its residents. An invitation is extended to all community members to join a crucial meeting scheduled for Monday, January 22, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cordova City Hall. This gathering aims to solicit critical feedback on the recommended actions outlined in the draft of the Cordova Comprehensive Plan.

According to RPCGB, the initial chapters, “Plan Overview” and “Cordova Today,” set the stage for understanding the current landscape and the plan’s overarching goals. Following these, Chapter 3 introduces catalytic project ideas, laying the groundwork for actionable initiatives. Chapters 4- 8 delve into specific themes, covering Future Land Use, Code Enforcement and Reform, Recreation and Green Systems, Livability and Public Services, and Mobility and Infrastructure. Each thematic chapter concludes with a set of recommended actions, providing practical steps for implementation in the future.

The meeting will commence with an overview presentation, offering attendees insights into the key aspects of the draft Cordova Comprehensive Plan. Following the presentation, participants can engage in an input activity, contributing their valuable perspectives and suggestions.

Recommended actions proposed in the Plan directly result from extensive public engagement. The community’s input gathered at previous meetings, through surveys, and stakeholder questionnaires has been instrumental in shaping these actionable measures. This collaborative approach ensures that the Comprehensive Plan reflects the aspirations and priorities of the Cordova community.

During a meeting with community members held in September 2023, RPCGB Principal Planner Lindsay Puckett told attendees, “The Comprehensive Plan won’t be just words on paper. It will comprise chapters with recommended actions covering land use, catalytic projects, mobility, infrastructure, livability, public services, and recreation,” said Puckett. “Your input helps us because you know your city best.”
