Game Recap: Bevill State Secures Dominant Victory Over Stillman

On December 11, the Bevill State Bears hosted the Stillman Tigers in a JV matchup at Songer Gym. The thrilling game showcased the skills of younger and less experienced players.

Bevill took a 23-17 lead over Stillman during the first five minutes. Despite Stillman’s attempts to reduce the lead, Bevill, with a size advantage, succeeded in pushing the ball in transition, making defensive stops, and displaying smart ball-handling. However, with five minutes remaining until halftime, Stillman took the lead by intensifying their defensive pressure. Bevill regained momentum when Isaiah Daniels locked down Stillman’s guard, leading to a turnover and a score. The first half ended with Stillman leading 38-33.

After halftime, Bevill narrowed down Stillman’s lead. With 16:21 remaining in the game, Ja’Myus Davis scored an and-one, putting Bevill back in the lead. The Bears extended their lead to 49-42 with another and-one from Davis. Donovan Shangase increased the lead to 56-44 with a three-pointer at the 11-minute mark. Bevill continued dominating, leading by twenty points with six minutes to go. Bevill played calmly and relaxed in the final minutes, securing an 83-61 victory over Stillman.

For Bevill, Quinn Brooks scored 14 points, and Jose Gonzalez displayed composure under pressure, contributing with rebounds and smart passes. Donovan Shangase excelled in shooting and solid defense. Stillman’s team played scrappy with tough shots and good defense, but Bevill’s size advantage was decisive.

The Bears faced off against Huntington College in another JV game on December 13. They will take on Southern Crescent Tech on December 16. Afterward, Bevill’s regular season resumes in the new year, with a game against East Central Mississippi on January 4. The Bears will return to Songer Gym on Monday, January 8, to face Chattahoochee Valley at 6 PM. WL
