Cordova Takes Down Curry for Second Regional Win

The Blue Devils emerged victorious with an impressive 49-6 win.

In another 4A Region 5 showdown, the Curry Yellowjackets battled with the Cordova Blue Devils this past Friday at James Hubbert Field in Curry. The Blue Devils emerged victorious with an impressive 49-6 win.


Cordova’s talented roster showcased their prowess on the offensive front, with junior quarterback Mason Bates, senior running back Jayden Clingan, senior running back David Odom, and senior wide receiver Kaden Williams all finding the end zone with a touchdown each.


Curry’s sophomore quarterback, Jonathan Sickles, completed 46.2 percent of his passes and passed for 74 yards. Senior running back and middle linebacker Jaxon Tidwell had 16 carries, rushed 67 yards, averaged 4.2 yards per carry, and contributed the lone touchdown for the Yellowjackets. Sophomore running back and strong safety Kameron Miles carried the ball 11 times, gaining 36 rushing yards and averaging 3.3 yards per carry.


On the defensive front, Cordova’s junior wide receiver and cornerback Kris Mavers intercepted a pass, turning it into a touchdown. Senior guard and defensive tackle Logan Burton made an impactful fumble recovery, while senior strong safety and running back Eli Clingan capitalized on a fumble recovery, converting it into a crucial touchdown. Lastly, Jayden Clingan added to the defensive highlights with an interception, transforming it into a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Cordova (2-7) is set to face the Carver Birmingham Rams on November 3 at 7 p.m. at the Carver High School Stadium. WL
