Commission Proclaims October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The proclamation added that the Walker County Courthouse will be illuminated in pink throughout October to help bring awareness to the disease.

The Walker County Commission recently proclaimed October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During a regular meeting, Commission Chair Steve Miller read a proclamation that stated,

Whereas: The Walker County Commission would like to emphasize the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness to both men and women of Walker County, and

Whereas: According to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women, and

Whereas: Breast cancer will be responsible for 1 in 36 women’s death and 440 men in the United States;

Whereas: There are approximately 3 million survivors in the United States due to early detection through screening, increased awareness, and improved treatments.

Therefore, the Walker County Commission does hereby proclaim October 2023 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and encourages all citizens to participate in these early detection procedures.
