Since 1967, the Baptist Health Foundation has operated as a faith-based 501(c)3 that positively impacts the lives of Baptist Health System’s affiliated hospitals’ patients, families, employees, and communities. Operating autonomously and independently from any hospital or healthcare organization, we serve as a healing Christian ministry filling a void in and around the Birmingham metropolitan area for uninsured patients and hospital employees in need. One hundred percent of the funds we raise are used to provide financial support for qualified patients, continuing education for medical professionals, monetary aid for employees in need, pastoral care for patients and their families, and community-based wellness programs.
Dirk Walker is one of Alabama’s most collected and sought after artists, with work that has been collected throughout the US and internationally.
Baptist Health Foundation recently invested over $300,000 to install and upgrade dedicated spaces of Christian meditation and reflection in Brookwood Baptist Health hospitals. This investment features a special collection of art by local artist Dirk Walker that portrays the healing ministry of Christ and will be displayed in all five Brookwood Baptist Health hospital common areas and patient rooms.
“We are proud to have these beautiful works of art in our hospitals,” said Brookwood Baptist Health CEO Jeremy Clark. “Dirk Walker is an outstanding artist, and you can feel the passion he has for his work when you look at these pieces. This project offers a gorgeous visual representation of Brookwood Baptist Health’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ through holistic, people-centered health care. I know this wonderful art will bring peace and calm to our patients, and I’m very thankful for that.”
Artwork installation has been completed in the common areas and patient rooms of all five Brookwood Baptist Health hospitals.

Through this partnership with Dirk Walker, Baptist Health Foundation brings the healing power of art and the good news of Christ’s love to patients, families, and employees while they are being cared for in our affiliated hospitals. “Every piece was developed with prayerful consideration seeking God’s direction to bless His people. Anytime we submit to the Lord’s leading, the outcome is more than we can ask, think, or imagine… and the response of our patients, families and staff has been just that!”, said Dr. Cecelia Walker, Executive Director of Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education of Brookwood Baptist Health.
