Nevada Frye is well versed when it comes to plants. She can identify them, tell you when and where to plant them, and give you advice on how to make them thrive. This affinity for all things green and growing was once just a hobby, but now it makes up her dream job.
Nevada was born in Jasper, Alabama. She briefly moved to Cullman in her youth but returned to Jasper in 2000 and graduated from Curry High School in 2006. It was during her time there that Nevada met her future husband, Chad.
“We hung out some in school, but life ultimately took us in different directions after graduation. A few years later, though, we ran into each other, and picked up right where we left off,” she says.
Nevada and Chad got married in 2012. They have three children Anna (19), who attends the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Taylor (15) a student at Curry High, and Charlie (6), a first grader at Curry Elementary.
Another big part of their family is their business, Professional Landscaping, Inc. Launched in 1991 by Chad’s father Wendal, Professional Landscaping is a full-service landscaping company offering a range of services including landscape installation, irrigation, lawn maintenance, and hardscape design and installation, as well as a garden center.
Nevada joined the Professional Landscaping team in 2016 as the office manager. In 2021, she led the charge on the expansion of Professional Landscaping to include The Plantique, a combination plant nursery and gift shop purposed to appeal more to the crowd who enjoy plants on a hobby basis rather than professionally.
At both locations, her responsibilities include the day-to-day clerical work like payroll and ordering merchandise, but she does a lot more than office work. Often, you can find her outside with dirt on her hands, planting and tending to the various flora offered at each store. Something that, after all this time, she still feels to be somewhat like a dream.
“I feel like everything fell into place. This was never what I planned to do. But it was something that I had always enjoyed,” she says. “I believe that God worked on that, and He allowed this passion to become what I do all day, every day.” WL
