The Jasper Swim Team is preparing to showcase their talents at the Alabama Recreation and Park Association (ARPA) State Swim Meet this weekend. The event will take place at The Birmingham Crossplex, bringing together a total of 1125 athletes from across the state. The meet promises a thrilling display of skill and determination.
Among the numerous teams participating, the Jasper Swim Team stands out with a total of 57 members from the team successfully qualifying for the state meet. Out of the qualified participants, an impressive 51 swimmers from the Jasper Swim Team will be taking part in the competition. These individuals, ages 4 to 16, have honed their skills and put in countless hours of practice to reach this point.
“These young people have put in so much work to get to this point. This isn’t something that’s just handed to them,” said Jasper Aquatics Director Stacy Smothers. “They are all very hardworking, and we are incredibly proud of them.”
Coach Jason Lynn adds that he is excited to see how the team performs and thanks the parents and other family members that contribute to the team’s success.
“Our goals for this meet are no different than any other. We want our swimmers to drop their times and do their best. They’re excited to go, and we’re excited to see how they do,” Lynn said. “These kids and their families are so dedicated. Swim is the only park and rec sport that is 100% driven by families. They’re the judges and the timers, they have to know the ins and outs, and we wouldn’t have the success we have without their help.”
The ARPA State Swim and Dive Meet kicks off at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21, and lasts through the evening on Saturday, July 22. Congratulations to the Jasper Swim Team on participating in this year’s event! WL
