Bevill State Students Honored as Members of the 2023 All-Alabama Academic Team

Two Bevill State Community College (BSCC) students are among the 2023 All-Alabama Academic Team.

Ariel Colburn, GPA: 4.0, Hometown: Fayette, AL (BSCC Fayette Campus) and Hunter Miller, GPA: 3.5, Hometown: Jasper, AL (BSCC Jasper Campus) were honored for this accomplishment during the Annual All-Alabama Community College Academic Team Recognition Ceremony on Friday, April 14, 2023, in Birmingham, AL.

Ariel Colburn is a sophomore Academic Transfer student on the Fayette Campus, with a 4.0 GPA. Ariel currently serves as president of the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Garden Club. She is also treasurer of Sigma Kappa Delta. Following graduation from Bevill State, Ariel plans to attend Mississippi State University to pursue her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology/Clinical Exercise Physiology. She then hopes to attend graduate school at the University of South Alabama for Physical Therapy. Ultimately, Ariel hopes to own her own physical therapy rehabilitation facility.

Hunter Miller is a sophomore Nursing student on the Jasper Campus with a 3.5 GPA. Hunter has served as a BSCC Ambassador since 2021 and is currently vice president of the Jasper Campus Ambassadors.  He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Student Nurses Association. Hunter is also the recipient of the 2023 Nursing Academic Honors Award for the Jasper Campus. He owns his own business making craftsman knives. Hunter plans to graduate from Bevill State Community College with his Nursing degree and pursue a career as an emergency room nurse.

Bevill State is proud of the outstanding accomplishments of these students, and we are pleased they received these scholarships and recognition,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.

All-Alabama Academic Team members are recognized for their distinguished academic achievements and leadership accomplishments. These students understand the responsibilities of being a scholar, alongside their role in community service.

All-Alabama Academic Team students are nominated by their respective colleges and must possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.25, be involved in campus activities, and have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours at the institution. WL
