LeaderSports Featured Athlete: Rusty McDonald, Sumiton Christian School

Meet Rusty McDonald, a senior at Sumiton Christian High School who excels both on the field and in the classroom.

As a tri-sport athlete, Rusty has been a key player as a running back in football under coach Jarius Williams, a point guard in basketball under coach Jeremy Hall, and an outfielder in baseball under coach Ricky Bowen.

Rusty’s talents are not confined to sports alone. Academically, he stands out with a 4.2 GPA and a passion for chemistry.

“What makes me like chemistry is the teacher, Mr. Timmons. He really knows what he is talking about and makes it easy to understand,” Rusty shares.

This enthusiasm for learning is further reflected in his involvement with the Student Government Association, where he serves as secretary, and his participation in Ambassadors, Dual Enrollment Ambassadors, Beta Club, and Spanish Club.

As Rusty approaches graduation in May 2025, his plans are still taking shape, but his dedication and hard work suggest a bright future ahead.

Rusty is the son of Russ and Rachel McDonald. Congratulations, Rusty, on your athletic and academic accomplishments. We wish you the best in your future endeavors! WL
