Walker County residents are invited to celebrate 200 years of history and community at the Walker County Bicentennial Brunch on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Jasper Civic Center.
The event begins at 9 a.m. with brunch catered by Five Loaves Bakery and Cafe, followed by presentations and guest speakers at 9:30 a.m.
The event’s theme, “Honoring Our Past, Celebrating Our Present, Building Our Future,” highlights the county’s legacy and its promising future.
Attendees can look forward to viewing artwork by local artist Kate Gurganus and special presentations honoring all Walker County municipalities.
Guests will also hear from distinguished speakers, including Representative Matt Woods, Walker County Commission Chairman Steve Miller, Senator Greg Reed, and Representative Tim Wadsworth.
The Bicentennial Brunch is part of a year-long celebration launched by the Walker County Commission, which passed a proclamation in November 2023 to recognize this milestone. The official bicentennial period began on December 26, 2023, 200 years after the Alabama Legislature established Walker County.
“Walker County has come a long way in 200 years, and this is a chance to celebrate everything that makes our community special,” said Miller. “It’s a time to honor our history, recognize the progress we’ve made, and look ahead to what’s next. I hope everyone will come out and be a part of this milestone event.” WL
