What started as a simple invitation to fill spots on a middle school bowling team has blossomed into a true passion for Corner High School senior James Cannon.
James began bowling in the eighth grade, and now, as a senior under the guidance of Coach Will Gray, he’s aiming to end his high school bowling career on a high note.
With a personal record of 236, James has posted scores that rival those seen in professional leagues. One of his proudest moments came when his team achieved a combined score of 1,500.
“In that game, we were going up against Vestavia, which is a 6A school that is really talented. We got so close to beating them but lost by just three pins. But it was still a big deal.” James shared.
Beyond the lanes, James is a talented musician and a dedicated saxophonist in Corner High School’s band.
James shines just as brightly academically with a 4.2 GPA, and he plans to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
“My dad introduced me to the idea, and it stuck. I love computers and math, and this field has great job security,” James explained.
While his time on the bowling team may be winding down, James’s ambition and drive will undoubtedly help him roll a perfect game in life. WL
