The Hive: Celebrating Opportunity and Kindness in Downtown Jasper

Words and Images by Jenny Lynn Davis

The Hive, a “build your own basket” gift store located in downtown Jasper, opened over Independence Day weekend. This unique shop is more than just a retail space; it’s a place where kindness flows freely and everyone is welcome.

At the core of The Hive’s mission is the guiding principle of Proverbs 16:24: “Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” This ethos is not only written on their walls but is also embodied by every employee. The Hive employs adults with exceptional needs, creating a workspace that values and uplifts everyone.

Visitors to The Hive can see the care and attention given to each basket creation. During The Walker Leader’s visit, The Hive founder Leigh Evans and her right-hand man, Braxton Stanley, were seen crafting a baby shower basket with items from beloved brands like Itzy Ritzy, Dabble and Dollop, and Oilogic.

Every product available at The Hive is chosen with intention and meaning. Leigh ensures that each item in the store has a story. For example, baskets from Rahab’s Rope support women and children in the fight against human trafficking. This thoughtful curation allows customers to shop with purpose, making each purchase feel special.

The Hive exemplifies the power of kindness and community spirit. It is a place where every smile, kind word, and thoughtful product selection speaks to the heart. The dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment is clear, reminding everyone that choosing kindness makes all the difference.

Whether you’re looking to build a unique gift basket, pick up a few individual items, or simply experience the positive atmosphere, The Hive is the perfect destination, showing how sweet life can be when kindness is at its core. WL

The Hive is located at 509 19th Street West, Jasper, AL 35501, and is open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
