Amy Frederickson recently began a new role as Walker County Administrator, bringing a wealth of experience and a vision for the county’s future. A Birmingham native and an attorney by training, Amy’s career path has been shaped by her passion for persuasive communication.
Her previous role was with the Federal Court system as a habeas staff attorney, where she reviewed case files, primarily for death penalty inmates, ensuring constitutional rights were upheld. “Working for the federal court was an honor. To be among some of the brightest minds shaped me a lot and made me more disciplined,” she says.
Over the last couple of years, Amy and her husband, Eric, have spent most of their free time in Walker County, restoring a historic home that once belonged to her great-great-grandfather. This connection to the area inspired her to make a significant career change.
“I felt like I was living two separate lives,” Amy explains. “When I read that some changes were being made within the county administration and saw an opportunity that fit my skill set, I jumped at it.”
In her new role, Amy is responsible for the county’s day-to-day operations, managing finances, supporting employees, and coordinating grants with local communities. She is committed to transparency and ensuring the public knows where their tax dollars go. Her long-term goal is to make Walker County competitive with other communities surrounding Birmingham.
“I see a lot of opportunity in Walker County that I believe has gone overlooked,” she says. “Great work has already been done, but there’s always more work to be done, and I’m glad I get to be included in that process.”
Outside of her professional life, Amy enjoys volunteering in her community and spending time with Eric, their headstrong 175-pound Neapolitan Mastiff named Luna, and several cats.
Grateful for the opportunity to serve, Amy wants the residents of Walker County to know, “As long as I am in this role, I will never stop working for you.” WL
