Distinguished Young Women of Walker County is now accepting applications for its 2025 program. Upcoming 2025 high school graduates from Walker County are invited to participate!

Distinguished Young Women is a nationwide program founded by the Mobile Jaycees in 1958 as an extension of the Azalea Trail Maids. The program sought and continues to empower young women by awarding yearly scholarship opportunities. Each year, the states’ classes of representatives get to participate in the Distinguished Young Women National Finals in Mobile, AL. Participants attend events, volunteer locally, perform on stage, and learn life skills while meeting other young women.

Distinguished Young Women pushes its participants to live by these attributes:

“Be Healthy” – Care for your physical and mental health.

“Be Involved” – Serve your community.

“Be Ambitious” – Set and achieve goals.

“Be Responsible” – Live by moral and ethical principles.

“Be Studious” – Stay in school and be a lifelong learner.

Lynn Mosely of Distinguished Young Women of Walker County says, “I have witnessed firsthand the impact this program has on each girl who participates, and that impact pushes me and so many others in the community to keep volunteering and keeping these opportunities open. It is quite a worthwhile endeavor.” WL
