Jasper Hearing Center has been serving the community for years, providing quality service and embracing its goal of helping patients ‘hear life again!’  The Walker Leader sat down with Jasper Hearing Center owner and resident audiologist Kristi Allen to learn more about her upbringing, healthcare journey, family, and passion for serving her community.

WL: Tell us about your background.

KA: I was born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio, which is in the greater Cincinnati metro area and has an approximate population of 65,000. I was very close with my family, who all lived in the same area. I have one stepsister, and I grew up dancing and playing softball. I graduated from Hamilton High School in 1996.

WL: Tell us about your college education.

KA: I attended the University of Alabama from 1996 to 2002. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders in 2000 and my Master of Science in Audiology in 2002.

WL: What career path did you choose, and why?

KA:  I always wanted to work in the allied health field. My undergraduate classes focused on

speech-language pathology and audiology. I chose to pursue Audiology in graduate school.

Working with hearing aids has always been my favorite part of Audiology.

WL: What does a typical day look like for you?

KA: During the week, I go into the office to see patients, then come home in the evening and spend time with my husband Kevin, my children Saydie and Parker, our puppy Ellie, and cats Peri and Ollie. On the weekends, we go to Florence, Alabama, to visit Saydie, where she attends the University of North Alabama. Parker is an eighth grader at Jasper Junior High. Saturdays in the Fall are all about watching Alabama football!

WL: What is your business, and what services do you offer?

KA: I own Jasper Hearing Center, which opened in 2016. We sell hearing aids and accessories and specialize infitting, servicing, and repairs.

WL: What is your favorite part of your job?

KA: I love being able to help enhance my patients’ overall quality of life. Helping them hear better makes their social interactions easier and less stressful. I love helping them engage in life and enjoy time with family and friends.

WL: Lastly, what is your go-to meal in Walker County?

KA: Any Greek-style fish from Black Rock Bistro!
