As the new school year begins, Amelia Hardin, teacher at Sumiton Christian School and owner of Amelia’s Bows children’s boutique, took a proactive approach to help local students have the necessary tools to succeed. On Saturday, August 5, Amelia’s Bows hosted a backpack and school supply giveaway, providing 75 backpacks filled with brand-new supplies for local students in need.

“Walker County Schools are giving free school supplies to students this year, but some kids don’t have supplies at home to do homework or projects,” Amelia says. “As a teacher, it was in my heart to do something about this.”

Thanks to support from the community, Amelia gathered an impressive array of supplies for the giveaway. Each backpack was filled with items like pencils, crayons, notebooks, markers, rulers, and various other essentials needed for school projects and homework.

Moreover, Hardin added an extra treat to the event by offering free popsicles to all attendees, creating a fun atmosphere for the students and their families, and helping to make the back-to-school experience more enjoyable and memorable for the young ones in the community.

“So many kids in our community are in need, and I feel like sometimes we don’t even realize the extent of those needs, or we take it for granted and say, ‘oh, they’ll get it somehow,’” Amelia says. “But I believe that we as a community should step up and help meet that need to help these children have a good school year. So, I decided to step up this year, and I’ve been blessed to have received so much help, and we are excited to help these kids go to school happier and feel proud that they have their own brand-new supplies.” WL

Amelia’s Bows is located at 1294 Main St, Sumiton, AL 35148
