Jasper Parks and Recreation’s 12-and-under softball team, the Jasper Strikers, received well-deserved recognition during Tuesday’s Jasper City Council Meeting. The team was honored for their victory at last week’s Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) State Softball Tournament, where they emerged as champions.

Four of the team’s twelve players, accompanied by their coaches, proudly displayed the championship trophy to Mayor O’Mary, councilmembers, and meeting attendees. The young athletes also had the honor of leading the pledge of allegiance at the start of the meeting.

“We took two teams to the ARPA tournament, this 12-and-under group and our eight-and-under group. The eight-and-under group placed third, and these girls brought home the championship,” said Daphne McCain, Program Director for Jasper Parks and Recreation. “Both teams represented the City of Jasper very well; we are so proud of them!”

The Jasper Strikers’ exceptional performance has earned them a spot in the upcoming USA Softball of Alabama World Series. From June 28 to July 1, the team will represent Jasper as they compete in Foley, Alabama. This tournament brings together exceptional softball teams from across the state, allowing them to showcase their skills on a larger stage.

Congratulations to the Jasper Strikers! WL
